Squamous-cell skin cancer, also known as cutaneous squamous-cell carcinoma (cSCC), is one of the typical types of skin cancer along with melanoma and basal cell cancer. Normally, it presents as a hard lump with a scaly top but can also deteriorate into an ulcer. The onset period is frequently several months. When compared to basal cell skin cancer, squamous-cell skin cancer is more likely to spread to distant areas. The greatest risk factor is the sun's high total exposure to ultraviolet radiation. Squamous cell cancers of the ear and lip have a high risk of local recurrence and distant metastasis (about 20-50%).
