The emergence of UV light Disinfection may be traced back to an interesting historical relic based on the 1878 work ‘On the Influence of Light upon Protoplasm’ by Arthur Downes and Thomas P. Blunt.
It has been employed in a number of industrial, commercial, and therapeutic applications since its discovery as a disinfectant, spanning water purification to ink and varnish curing to sanitation and disease prevention.
UV light is also currently the popular tool in the continuous battle to find ways of preventing SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, from infecting yourself. According to known scientific evidence, UV light can kill a variety of viruses, including SARS-CoV-2.
We have used traditional disinfection practices for decades, but are they still effective? Even thorough washing with hot water, bleach, and disinfectants can leave hazardous germs and bacteria behind. These pathogens could, in the worst-case situation, cause disease or even prove to be fatal.
Meanwhile, UV light disinfection uses ultraviolet technology to shorten the time it takes for germs and bacteria to be killed and is an excellent complement to other treatments.
